I've come across news stating the original series, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers getting relaunched some time in the future......
Is it confirmed or just rumors? Given the whole escapade and all after all those differing news of Disney's decision to continue or not with Power Rangers after RPM.
There's the news of the remastered MMPR toys for the holidays, and then there's the news stating MMPR being relaunched January next year...
If it does actually happen, what are the possibilities?
Improvements as to graphics? Brushing up on those morphin sequences? Additions or improvement of graphics (Zedd's putties breaking apart or Zedd's bombs could use the improvements)? Kinda like what the Star Wars Special Edition, it has its own changes and additions.
Kids learning a thing or two about the mid nineties?

Wait - where did you see that? I'd like to read it if it's online ^_^ I work as a web producer - if I see the original article, perhaps I can trace it to its source and verify authenticity.

Firstly, it's not a reboot of MMPR in anyway. The return of MMPR is nothing more than Disney airing "remastered" reruns in lieu of producing new episodes. Episodes are going to be edited for time and content, presumably touched up, and certain Saban owned songs are likely to be replaced.
What does this mean for Power Rangers? Well, if you ask me, this makes decent sense from a business standpoint, especially for Disney. Season 1 of MMPR was undoubtedly PR's most popular season, and nearly twenty years later, it's definitely reached the "nostalgia" stage. Plus, for most of PR's target demographic, this will be their first time seeing MMPR. It's a new season for them, which means new toys when Disney re-releases the figures. On top of all that, ratings for PR are tanking right now and the profit Disney is going to make from MMPR is probably pretty comparable to what it would get from a new season when you include what one costs to produce.
With a 60 episode count in S1, Disney's airing reruns of MMPR through early 2011. If they keep going with the MMPR swing and run S2 and S3, you're looking at 2013, which gives Disney plenty of time to decide what they want to do with the franchise in time for the 20th anniversary that same year. And believe me, Disney will do something big for that. No one's dumb enough to turn down that cash cow.

Remastered reruns? Definitely cost them less just remastering reruns than producing the new episodes. I'm not sure about the aspect of them replacing the songs. I've come across something that said: "Original Music in Remastered MMPR Ever since we learned that Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is coming back January 2010, the worry came about whether the original music will be part of the show as well. Not only has a source confirmed that the original music will be part of the remastered MMPR, Disney is contractually obligated to leave the music in the show. So worry not any longer! Ron Wasserman (Composer from Mighty Morphin Power Rangers) has also spoke on the issue via Starpoints Rangercrew: I just heard [Mighty Morphin Power Rangers] was a go. I was told there was a chance they’d want things re-scored a few months back, but never heard back. A friend of mine said they were using all the original music because Saban owns all the rights and there was something in the contract that would have prevented Disney from replacing the music. I’m not absolutely certain about this so I guess we’ll all find out next year." Well, that was pretty much. Not a definite answer. Who knows? It probably would attract more attention and affect any future 'Moprphicon' in a positive way. Here's the new logo they have for the toys in the upcoming holidays. Though overall, I prefer the old logo.

Yeah, in retrospect, that's probably accurate as far as the music goes. It's essentially why Dino Thunder was able to use the MMPR music in flashbacks, but not in Legacy of Power Fighting Spirit, and why Adam's music was different in Once a Ranger. Based on the Saban-Disney deal from 2002, the songs can be used if it's Saban-era footage being shown (I.e., flashbacks), but not as an accompanying piece to Disney tape.
That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if Disney re-did the opening with a new theme just to Disney-fy it.
edited for me being an idiot

From what season do they actually start having them in DVDs in the first place?

From what season do they actually start having them in DVDs in the first place? It really depends on where you live and what you're looking for. There have been European box sets of MMPR - LG (English vocals with optional subtitles), but they only play on certain DVD players and, if you live in the States, you're dealing with big shipping costs PLUS the exchange rate to Euros, which is awful right now. Saban often mixed and matched episodes for VHS release but, if I'm not mistaken, it wasn't until Disney took over that we began getting sequential episode releases. Still, most of the time they skip episodes. To date, Operation Overdrive is the only season to receive a 100% complete DVD release domestically. With the remastering and reairing of MMPR, though, I wouldn't be surprised to see this change some time within the next couple of years or so.

WK's right....and with NS, DT, and SPD we got like the first 25 episode then nothing else. I can't remember how many DVD's were released for MF or JF, but I don't think it was even that many....

Disney released three volumes for Mystic Force, plus the Dark Wish trilogy. For Jungle Fury, only the first two volumes were released domestically, while three, four, and five are available in the UK. Being that each volume is four to five episodes, it's not very much. Overdrive pulled off five volumes, but that's only because they put a crapload of episodes on each disc.

Well that kinda sucks. Why in the world do they put in only a few episodes just in one DVD? Just another way to make cash? I've bought DVDs, but only when they usually sell the complete set or a whole box of the complete series....
Things like anime where the DVDs have like 100 episodes in total within 4 DVDs. Cost me only 50 bucks for the whole series.
But 5 episodes in just one DVD? To me that's a rip off, they're only 20 minutes per episode, not one hour long anyway.

I've bought DVDs, but only when they usually sell the complete set or a whole box of the complete series.... Yes, it's most certainly to make money. The sad truth is that Power Rangers just isn't as popular as it used to be; hasn't been for quite some time. With episode counts in the low thirties now, from a business standpoint releasing five or six volumes at fifteen bucks each makes a lot more sense than just one box set at fifty or sixty bucks a pop.

I actually bought one of the DT DVD'S only because I wanted the 500th episode and the disk had 4 episodes and it cost almost 20 bucks

Hm....... If the popularity ratings change when the remastered MMPR some time next year, hopefully the prices and DVD collection change too. It's completely different, isn't it? There should be a much wider ranger of audiences, both old die hard fans with its nostalgic value and the current generation. Sure some of the old look too simple, but there's good in its simplicity. I've seen morphing sequences that really take a long time, and it was just one person! Some guy in Youtube called the 'Solaris Knight', man... that was long. I was like 'Oooookay, that was really long. The sequence starting from Zack all the way to Jason would have been done way after all that CGI morphing going on.

The pricing depends on which store the DVD's are at, since every place is different.

I dunno if it's me or not, but does anyone think that this could *perhaps* lead to a reboot of MMPR? I think it'd be cool if it did, but it'd be interesting to see what everyone else says....

I personally don't think so. At least, not as a television series. I think there's a very, very slim chance we could see MMPR rebooted on the big screen as a full length feature film in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of the series in 2013, but I'm not holding my breath on that happening. The problem with doing it as a TV show is that PR is at the mercy of Super Sentai. Unless Disney were to do what Saban did and commission additional footage (see: Zyu2), they would be forced to produce everything from scratch: costumes, sets, monsters, Zords, weapons, etc. What's kept PR on the air for so long is that it's relatively cheap to produce; yes, a lot of the fight scenes are American made now, but Toei just ships all the stuff here when they're done with it. Disney has shown PR very little love these last few years; I don't see The Mouse investing that kind of money into television PR.

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up alright. A possibility of ratings going up for PR is good, perhaps they'll just stick to remastering the old series and see where to go from there.
The whole MMPR era had it easy, having a wide range of footage to utilize compared to the others which were limited to their own season. Utilizing footage from three different season: Zyuuranger, Dairanger, and Kakuranger.
But for now, even the thought of a direct-to-video type of movie seems highly improbable... The fact there were only two Power Ranger movies, and the last one was twelve years ago.

So - who here is admittedly going to go out and buy the remastered toys and stuff? I'm a pack-rat (though I prefer "collector" LOL) and my husband works at Target... *whistles innocently* I swear! It's all for my... er, cousin!

Sadly, I'm on the other side of the world so that's no go for me. If I was ever given chance, I'd probably buy my favorite Zords, the Dragonzord and the Red Dragon Thunderzord. I remember having the Green Ranger when I was kid, got it all because I was scared going to go to the dentist.

Well that's nice to hear. What exactly would your preference be anyways? Mostly Rangers instead of Zords? The Pink, White, and Green Rangers in particular?

LOL My husband stocks the shelves, so he's promised to keep one of everything in the back -_-;; He laughed, but then I pointed out all our InuYasha figures and collectors stuff... all his Gundam and Transformers collectibles... really, we're just nerd-ify-ing our apartment even more!
Bahamut - if you're interested, I'll check out prices... if you'd like, I could pick up two of stuff you'd like and send 'em to you?
