I am wondering about fans reactions as to the remastered MMPR. Is it a good thing or a bad thing?
K-Power mentioned something 'like a comic book', I came across someone complaining it looked like it was done with Power Point. Another seemed to like it.
Mixed reactions....

I am glad that someone started a thread about this. I hope that people will leave thier comments cause I am also curious to see what people thought of the remastered MMPR.
Like I did mention earlier, it really did feel like i was wathing a comic book or something like that. I feel like that they are trying to target the younger generation of today by doing this, but it ruins it for us old-schoolers. why couldnt they just you know, remaster the quality, sound, graphics, etc. (Like they did with Star Wars, I think.) I mean the picture does look alot better than in did back in 1993.
I'll also have to agree with the person that said it looked like it was done with PowerPoint. I mean, if that is what they had in mind, they could have done it alot better.
Dont get me wrong, I'm glad that they brought back MMPR cause it gives my daughter a chance to watch the Power Rangers that i grew up with, but they could have left all that extra stuff out of it. So, I'm glad that they're back, but they dont need all that extra stuff that they did to it. I'll still watch it .
If i had to rate it, probably 2 or 3 stars out of 5.
LONG LIVE THE POWER RANGERS! GO, GO, POWER RANGERS!!!!

Am Glad They Decided To Bring back MMPR.. but i like i stated in the last thread it does look like where watching a comic book. we can deff do without all the extra special effects it takes way from what made the show a hit in the first place.. why we all fell in love wit it... i also dont like how the label everything and changed the opening credits.. but like most fans am just happy were going back to the the best team ever MMPR!! GO GO POWER RANGERS!!!

The changes everyone seems to hate so much are, unfortunately, a necessary evil in today's world. The FCC has clamped down on "kids TV" quite a bit since MMPR's original run; things like headshots and particularly aggressive/violent blows (especially in unmorphed fights) are considered taboo, hence the campy, 1960's Batman-style "BOOM/POW!" stuff. Plus, you have to consider what today's kids are used to in their Power Rangers as well: sparks flying every three seconds, a dozen unnecessary Koichisplosions per episode, etc. MMPR is boring by today's standards. Something had to be done to make it more flashy for the kids.
That being said, I enjoyed the presentation for the most part. The picture and audio quality is superb, and I definitely appreciated the updated take on certain special effects. Some things were unnecessary -- like the onscreen text naming the Zords and who they belonged to, even though Zordon had just explained it a few minutes prior -- but, on the whole, I thought it was well done. I can live with the "BOOM's", "POW's", and "KA-BLAM's" so long as the show remains true to its origins.
Let's face it, PR (especially MMPR) has always been exceptionally cheesy, even more so under the Disney regime. The changes were nothing less than what should have been expected by any reasonably intelligent fan who has been keeping up with the show for the last few years. Honestly, I'm just hoping MMPR does well enough with the younger generation to rekindle the proverbial spark. Now that Disney has acquired Marvel, I think it would be a good idea to shift production of PR over to that side and let the people who have been doing superheroes for decades do what they do best.

I think some of the effects are unnecessary, like in Day of the dumpster where Jason was teaching bulk some of the kicks, I don't think the effects had to go in that part. Some of the other effects are ok, because it lets the new generation know who is who in the show

I was kinda speechless the very moment those 'Go go go' graphics came out in the opening. True, some of the graphics were unnecessary in some parts. But I was quite intrigued on the quality of the footage having been remastered, it definitely seemed much better. Sure technology has come far this whole time ever since so the cleaned up footage shouldn't be something to be surprised about, but I just couldn't help it when I saw the old episodes again. In terms of those annoying graphics, I think it is understandable, but still annoying . They're keeping in mind the young audience too, not just the old fans. But I just hope this move that they're doesn't end to be one big mistake that end up ruining it for both generations of fans. To me, I'm just glad that they didn't go overboard with graphics, putting things here and there whenever they feel like it. For example, keeping the old footage of the blasters shooting the lasers and having them remastered rather of overlapping them with their own better laser graphics. Is it just me, or do all the comic graphics done are somehow meant to tone down the level of violence that always worries most grown ups about the show? I'll give it a 3 (at most it'd be a 3.5) out of 5. If some grown up fans sit along with their kids as they watch this, it'd be quite experience for them. No computer graphics when it comes to Zords, be it the zords themselves, when they combine, or do their finishing move. Showing them how it was done in the old days.

It's not you that is why the comic book graphics are in there. I was 3 when MMPR premiered and the show didn't seem that violent for me. As i was watching the remastered episodes from saturday, I noticed how much they weren't making contact with the putties, they are barely touching them.
I am interested to see what graphics they will have when tommy comes into the picture

It would be a while before 'Green with Evil Part 1' airs, right? Checking back, it was episode 17. I do wonder, would they actually try to add some graphics in the underwater fight that involved some Oyster monster against the Dragonzord. Of course, that would be a while that episode would happen.

it would be a several weeks before we see tommy come into the picture, I am sure that they would add graphics while they are underwater

After a few more episodes, I think only then we'll be able to predict what sort of graphics we'll be seeing. I mean judging from the first few episodes, much like the Zords, naturally 'Dragonzord' will be written as Dragonzord rises out from the water. Even when it is plain obvious with them they're showing it right when Rita says 'The Mighty Dragonzord'.
Things like that are just obvious.

I totally agree with you on this, wk88. I think if Disney was to let Marvel re-master MMPR, it would be totally awesome and the kids on the younger generation would love it!!

They actually did use stunt doubles in the show. I downloaded a Behind-the-Scenes video to the show and it show them using stunt doubles. That's why sometimes they looked shorter or taller when they didnt use the footage. If youre interested nfty07, i can give you the link to download the video.
