Loved the premiere of RPM. The promos definitely did not disappoint at all. Ziggy is awesome, very much like Bridge; his comedic timing is excellent, and doesn't detract from everything else that is happening. As a whole team, these 5 are the best we've had in years as far as acting chops go, although none of them come close to RJ's cool factor. It's a shame, really, that a character as awesome as RJ was dumped on a season as terrible as Jungle Fury.
The show really jumped in at a great point, especially leaving that year gap to be explained as the series progresses. Dillion and Summer have fantastic on-screen chemistry (her "brooding bad boy" line in FTB was awesome!) and I can easily see them being the "shipper couple" of this season. Flynn's accent is sweet, and he's definitely got a boyish charm to him that makes him an easily likable character.
Scott, though...I'm not too sure about him, but I'm not gonna jump the gun and judge him negatively after just two episodes. He really played the distraught son role superbly, it just seemed like the episodes were more focused on other characters and that's fine with me. He'll get his focus episodes, and that's when we'll really get to see if he's Jack-enjoyable or Casey-cringe worthy.
My only real complaint so far is the Zords with their big cartoon eyes. For a season that is supposed to be intensely serious, the Zords are just laughable at best. They really do take away from the show when they come on-screen, at least in my opinion anyway.
Oh, and for anyone who doubted that this Venjix is the same as the one from Forever Red, BLANK YOU!!!!!! Lol. Everything about Venjix, from his base of operations to his subordinates just screams Machine Empire in every way, shape, and form imaginable. Is it a fanwank? Maybe. Is it an awesome fanwank? Damn right.
In two episodes this season is already leaps and bounds above Mystic Force, Overdrive, and Jungle Fury. The pacing was awesome, excellent acting, cinematography, and special effects. I just hope this doesn't end up being a "One step forward, two steps back" type of deal. The potential in this season to be one of the best ever is glaringly obvious, and not since first-half SPD have I actually been looking forward to the next episode.
Anyone else watch the premiere and want to share their thoughts?
