Okay... be warned this is a mini-rant...
For the last month or so... even before that... I have been trying to work on the next chapter for one of my PR fics. Well I have no idea why but 1st I got it completed. I sent it in an email to my co-author, and that email got lost. Then I went back into my emails to see where it was, and it wasn't in my send files. So I'm like okay sure... I go to my documents and it was gone. So since then I've tried 2 more times to re-write it, one being last night. I stayed up until 2ish and I was so excited because my inspiration was back. It wasn't the best considering my details were lacking from having to re-write it, but nontheless I did. This morning I get an email from that wonderful co-author and I want to show her what I have so far just so we can make sure it's in the right direction. I go to the file I saved, and it's of another document!

I think that Zedd is trying to prevent you from continuing on with the story. He's infected your computer! AAAHHHH!!!!

What version of MS word are you using? I've never had problems like that with that particular program.

Alrighty Chris, First I'd check the directory you're saving to... Sometimes Word does this funny thing and starts saving in random places (for me its my temporary folder) instead of where you actually want to save it. Then check the format of the doc you're saving... Make sure the version is correct... On default it should save properly, sometimes it's not on default and that causes some evilness Another thing that useful is to save versions and email those versions to yourself. It shows up in your inbox right away and you can see if the doc made it through or not. I hope that helps and I hope that these kind of things stop happening. As for Microsoft, I have no qualms against them since I've been using their "wonderful" (and yes, I mean that half sarcastically) software forever. That being said, I'm sorry that this has happened to you, my faith in Microsoft has been severely shaken yet again I can't believe that it surprises me still.

What Rach said *points up* I always send important things to myself - it's an extra copy somewhere just in case the laptop crashes or something

But But But But... Ms. Word is *so* wonderful! We've been together for almost a decade so yeah.. DON'T DELETE IT!! Just like Rach said, you could email it to your email account. I tend to do that with my writings and even usually with my graphics. Either I email it or upload it to my Photobucket account. Saving those to your USB thumb drive helps as well. Or save it to my D-drive since usually when I format my computer the only files missing are the only ones in the C-drive ( but of course sometimes I forget to copy the files) (: Good luck!

Okay, you sent the email FROM Microsoft Word, right? Not Outlook?
I have 2007, too... if the above description is correct, then I can send a practice email and figure out where it saves the sent item.

Double ditto... although I was forced to upgrade to Office 2007 because of my volunteer database project... and I had to have Vista because my new laptop doesn't support anything else.
Microsoft has cursed me to use software I don't like!! Auuughhh!

Sorry I haven't been around to help with this part, but yeah, 2007 sucks a$$. As someone in the Info Tech field, and those of you who are also there will agree with me, they released 2007 and Vista WAY TOO SOON! And ask Rapunzl, I've worked with Server 2008, it's HORRIBLE. There are a ton of bugs and stupid stuff they still haven't worked out, and the stuff's been out nearly 2 years. My best piece of advice to you is to do exactly what the others have suggested, and if it's still giving you fits, go with I'd sat Word 2003.

But look on the bright sight, if they had released Vista when they were supposed to (which I believe originally was two, three years ago), we'd have an even crappier product... I know hard to believe but it would have been much crappier
