This is actually something I'm really curious about... For me, it was the interaction on the show that led me to falling in love with Sky & Syd. They were just too cute for words!
and as for Tommy/Kim... I was actually rooting for Kimberly and Jason at first! But then I started reading Tommy/Kim fics and that's what made me prefer them as a couple... I'm also now a Jason/Trini fan! ^^
So how did you guys fall in love with the couples that this site is famous for shipping?

Well, my TK shipping started from the very beginning. I was 16 when the show started, and watched it with my little brother (8). I watched for the hot guys *snicker* while he watched for the fights. Anyway, from the moment that Kimberly starting "mooning" over Tommy, so did I. LOL I loved the two of them, I thought they were so cute and sweet, and I wanted a Tommy! (Still do; some things never change.) For me, there was never any other couple I could see during the MMPR days. Well, I could honestly see that Trini would have worked with Jason or Billy, but I wasn't an avid shipper of them.
I have to blame (or THANK! lol) Kim for my SS love. I didn't watch SPD when it was on; I had seen the commercials, so I knew what the characters looked like, and that they were police, but that was it. It was while I was checking out Kim's site for updates for her TK fics that I saw she had written some Sky/Syd stuff. I knew that they would look good together (shallow, I know lol), and I figured that if she was writing them, I would check them out, cuz I love her writing. I read a couple of them (I honestly don't know which one I read first) and was hooked! It was love at first read, and from then on I was on a mission to find all the SS I could. I downloaded the episodes and watched; I did anything I could to find out more about the characters.
So, that's my story (and I'm sticking to it LOL) of how I came to ship these two great couples. I saw that they treated each other with the respect and dignity necessary to have a lasting relationship (even if it wasn't canon on the show as SS wasn't), and that was it for me.
Good question too Chrissy, thanks! Should be interesting to see others answers.

I fell in love with SS after reading a few fics by Kim ( great ones by the way). ;D
I think it was Variations of Pink and SPD.
And TK, when I saw them together on the show for the first time, I tought they had a good chemisty and they looked cute together.

Let's see, so my obsession with PR in general began when I was in elementary school... I think I was in grade 3 or 4 and I started watching it for the fighting, explosions and the high flying action!  Which got me in uber trouble with les parents and they banned me from watching it... But I still snuck over to my grandparents house to watch anyway... I didn't start shipping T/K until I was older and fell upon re-runs of the show... Although to this day, I think boys have cooties, I wouldn't mind swapping some with Tommy or Sky for that matter  My love for Skyd developed when a friend of mine asked if I would make a vid of them... Having not watched PR since I believe Time Force with my cousins... Lucas was super gorgeous ;D... But I digress... I began researching the couple... Wasn't too hard to fall in love with the pairing... They're both so darn cute (You're not shallow, Cat, the correct term is, observant  ) And the first vid I looked up when searching on YouTube was Kim's Looking Through Your Eyes. From there, I wrote a fic and made that vid for my friend... And it has just snowballed to countless banners, icons and walls... I'M OBSESSED!!!  |

TommyKim - I was a PR fan from DAY 1. I watched those two fall in love, one episode at a time. I think at that point, cause I was at the tail end of elementary school beginning of middle school, the chemistry between them just stole my breath away. I saw couples at school, and at home, and NONE of them acted like that. Being a child of divorce, I wanted something stable to cling to, and I had them. And then it all shattered...
SydSky - I blame BloomingViolets. Pink Surprise and Unexpected Feelings. I initially hated SPD, thought it was STUPID (this is coming off of Dino Thunder and getting JDF back for a whole season and was still reeling from wanting AJJ back and not getting it). I got hooked on Chris but thought Sky was an ass, was a little wary of Syd but loved Aly....and then we got Walls....talk about Chemistry. It just evolved from there.

OMG Kim that's too funny. The reason I didn't watch SPD when it aired, was because I saw the previews at the end of DT and was like 'omg that looks so stupid', and decided right then and there to not watch. Boy am I smacking myself now. LOL Sorry, just thought that was funny that we both initially thought the show was stupid, and now we obsess over it.

Oh Lordy, I thought the premise of Wild Force was dumb that I completely tuned out of PR after Time Force was over... But I'm glad I'm back in it... Even if the storylines are absolute crap... Can't go wrong with appreciating eye candy... And I have to agree, Xander is one cutie! |

My love of TK definitely started when the show was on. Who didn't love the Green-turned-White Ranger and the Pink Ranger as a couple? lol. I loved dthem together very much. I saw a few episodes of Zeo, and never saw the Letter episode, so last i believe it was, I checked it out, and bawled my eyes out.
As for SS, Kim is the "guilty" party on that one. I first met her through another one of her fics that didn't feature SS, sent her an email, found out that, I believe it was BV, had stopped Kim from torching my ass, and we've been best friends since. i wasn't able to watch SS because I didn't have the disney channel then *kicks Disney* so I couldn't watch. Kim's fics soon made me fall in love with the idea of SS together. And yes, Kim, I WILL post that story that I sent you ages ago! I promise! *grins evilly*

Alright since I am most the only person on the board I think that has only been in the world of PR for about three months I will raise my hand and point my finger at CATHY our mistress. We have been best friends for almost 4 years now (right Cat), we met through our love of Buffy/Angel online. She being a long time PR fan started chatting about this world, however for a long time I just listened. Finally, about three months ago she and Kim talked me into reading Shawn's fic Succumb.....and the rest we shall say was history. I havent stopped reading TK fics. I am know up to like ep 27 in season 3. Which I am having trouble finishing now cause Kim is gone.  *sniff* *sniff* As for SS that also is Cathys fault, it started off I suppose from seeing them together in her graphics. Then, it went into reading her fics, cause no matter WHAT she writes I read....even if its someone I know nothing about. And I really loved the way she wrote them together. So two days ago I started watching SPD.... I am on ep 17 now....and I am LOVIN every second of it. SS forever baby!!!!!! |

My love for Sky and Syd came from the chemistry on the show! And my love for them evolved when I read some really good fics at ff.net - my favorite ones are the ones written by bloomingviolets! From what I can tell, she was one of the first ones to write Sky and Syd fics! and from her list of favorites, I eventually found Pink-Green-White-4ever's fics, which are also fabulous!!!!!!!!!!!!
And for Tommy and Kim, well they are THE PR couple!! 'Nuff said.

*blinks* I don't even remember that far back! *LOL* Actually, I remember looking for Sky/Syd fics and I couldn't find any good ones. All the stories that I found were by wannabe writers, with no plot lines, bad punctuations (which is one of my pet peeves!) and spelling errors everywhere! I remember getting really mad that I couldn't find any stories so I decided to write some and that's how Unexpected Feelings came into existance.
I wrote that fic right after I saw 'Walls' and I cringe at it now. I'm thinking about going back and fixing it up so that the rest of the events in SPD ties into it, but I'm sooo lazy *hehe* not to mention all the other fics I need to finish.
And as for starting the trend... I'd say that's something to be proud of! I'm SO glad people are joining the club! =D

Kim/Tommy- Kim was my second favorite PR when they first came out Billy was my first but i saw Billy with Trini so a few episodes later I found my all time favorite ranger Tommy and I saw the interaction between Kim/Tommy and it's been Tommy/Kim ever since.

Tommy and Kim- From the moment i saw them, i fell in love with them as a couple. here i was, an 8 year old girl who had just decided boys could be cute and while the rest were cute when i saw tommy my heart melted...and when Kim(my fav GIRL ranger ever) looked at Tommy..i was like oh my god they are perfect. They were like a storybook romance..but what really got me is the moment tommy lost his green ranger powers and asked kim out..the actors had enough emotion to make you really believe what you were seeing and even at 23 watching them you still feel it. They were the perfect couple, cute, caring, honest and above all they respected each other. I mean tommy even gave up running for class president for his girlfriend. They were perfect and ill always be a tommy kim fan.
As for sky/syd...i didnt watch spd...after dino thunder was over i couldnt bring myself to do it. They teased me with Tommy again.

Tommy and Kim..Honestly it's not until a few years ago my great love for the couple revived. I was still a little kid when the show aired so I didn't have that much memories about them. But then I caught up and fell in love with them, again, almost instantly. There was this great, young man, yet he was a bit of a loner and there's this bubbly girl.. With their different personalities they completed each other and made the relationship work. It's nice to see Tommy coming out of his shy shell. Being friends with his new friends and becoming a power ranger might have played important part, but I like to think it's because of Kim he's becoming the Tommy Oliver we all adore ;D VIVA TOMBERLY!!! *waves banner* lol As for Sky and Syd, for me they're a couple that you just loved instantly when you saw a guy and a girl in a group of people. They just stood out and as I watched the whole series, they really were perfect for each other! That's all from me |

You're absolutely right about Tommy and Kimberly complimenting/completing each other. Kim was just outgoing enough that she was able to get Tommy to do things he normally wouldn't have done. And I think that Tommy was able to get Kim to calm down some, as she could tend to be a little *too* hyper at times. LOL Anyway, they are a great fit for one another.
I think this is also true of Sky and Syd. Not only do their looks compliment each other (does it make us shallow that it was their looks that initially made us think they were good together? LOL), but their personalities as well. I think Sky's seriousness could/would help Syd be more serious at times, and Syd's outgoing, funloving side would/could help Sky loosen up at times. I mean, who's the first person on the show that we see Sky smile and laugh with/at/for? And who's the first one we see trying to get Sky to do things with the group? *nods* If you guessed Syd, you'd be right. lol
I think that opposites *do* attract, but only to a certain point. I can't stand the arguement being used in regards to two other pairings (those of you who know me well will know of whom I'm talking. give you a hint, one of them involves one half of SS ) because IMO those are bad comparisons. Being opposites, and fighting with one another are two totally different things. My husband and I are about as different as you can get -I'm into sports, he's not. I'm silly, he's serious. He thinks he's funny, I don't -LOL opps, got sidetracked there. Anyway, we don't really share any of the same hobbies, but we WORK. We don't fight all the time -I mean sure, we have some little arguments, but after nearly 12 years of marriage, you're going to. But in the beginning we never did. I don't think it's a healthy relationship if you two are constantly dogging each other, putting each other down, and constantly going out of your way to prove each other wrong. You don't show someone you love them by being mean. (or have I been wrong all this time?)
Okay, so to get back to what I was trying to say... Sky and Syd are just opposite enough to work. But, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

No, we're not shallow! LOL. Yep, opposites attract. Now I didn't watch Zeo so I wouldn't know how TomKat's relationship really worked ( I'm trying not to cringe when I typed that, lol), but I watched Kat in some of MMPR season 3 eps and I think her personalities were pretty much similar to Tommy. They're too look alike, and that's why, I think Kim completed Tommy better. But that's just me, lol.
I'm sure Kat was a great person, but since they made her date Kim's Tommy and I was and am such a big fan of Kim, I guess I'm just being biased and don't like her that much. Sorry for ranting, not trying to bash her =/
And in my head, Tommy and Kim were happily married with 2 kids (one of the kids name is Liz, ha! ) and a huge dog ;D

I love my Tommy and Kim, but Tommy and Kat would have worked if they'd taken a different route with Kat as a character, as much as it pains me to say that. I loved Kat, as a character, but for her and Tommy to work, she'd have had to been change quite a bit.
As for Syd and Sky in reference to Cathy's comment about "Other people" I agree whole heartedly. Considering Sky didn't so much as be friendly to who you're referring to for 98% of the season, and I can pick out only two moments where he's being friendly to said person whole season, you can't say it's sexual tension between them, it's them at each other's throats all season because they're coming from two completely different places in life. That doesn't always mean chemistry, it means rivarly and anger.
