Wow! What a way to wake up! LOL The hubby and I were woke up this morning by the 5.4 quake that hit Illinois. Neither of us had any idea what it was, we both at first thought it was the other bumping into the bed, and rolled over to go back to sleep. We both later said that we honestly thought it was thunder shaking the house, cuz you could actually hear a rumble, and it's not uncommon for the thunder to shake our house. It wasn't until my Dad called over here a few minutes later and asked me if I'd felt the earthquake that I was aware of what it was.
I know that a 5.4 isn't bad, but it's really kinda freaky especially in this area. (I think it was made worse by the fact that we were woke by it, and it's kind of disorienting. I honestly couldn't live in Cali, I don't know how they deal with it.) The last one we had around here was back in '87 (a 5.0 accourding to the news), and I remember that one because we were getting ready to go to one of my baseball games, and I remember some things (mini collectable mugs my mom had) falling off of a shelf in our kitchen. I was ten at the time, so I didn't really understand what it was.
There's no damage around here, but my husband has a few pictures of the kids sitting on his computer desk and they were knocked over when we went in there to check if the news had anything about the quake. Weird. lol
So, any other friends here in the midwest feel it? Terra I know you had to have felt it, and Kim I heard that some people as far as Mich. felt it, did you? Nolan just told me about half an hour ago that he felt an aftershock around 11:45, but we didn't feel anything here at work, so I'm not sure how accurate that is.
Crazy, huh?!

Can I just say WOAH! Yes, we felt it here STRONGLY. I had just hit the snooze button for the hubby. I thought I had fallen back to sleep and he was shaking me to ask if I hit the button or not ....so i jumped up and said "what". And then he yells HUSH. I hear this incredible roar and the house and windows were shaking. I asked him is that the wind, and he said I DONT THINK THE WIND IS CAUSING OUR HOUSE TO SHAKE LIKE THIS.
So i asked him well WTH is it.. he said earthquake...which i responded but we dont have earthquakes around here.
Low and Behold, we got up turned the news on and the said EARTHQUAKE... we have minor damage around Louisville... one building downtown had a partial collapse and closed the street down, also it cause some water mains to burst. At my house we had no damage... just a scared little boy WHOM freaked out when it woke him up.
But yes, it bigs news here, everyone is talking about cause we just dont have earthquakes here...or at least not ones you FEEL like the one this morning.
IT WAS BEYOND CRAZY!! I just cant believe it.

I am sure he was correct about the aftershock..cause on the news here there has been five aftershocks by noon here.. all between 2.2 and 2.4 except one that was 4.2 that people say the could feel.
This is just crazy as hell!!!

OMG I'm just glad the kids didn't wake up, or they would have TOTALLY freaked out! Poor guy, I'm sorry it woke him.
While I was on the phone with my Dad, Nolan walked down the hall to the bathroom, and we asked him when he came out if he'd felt it -I wasn't sure if it woke him, or the phone did. He said he definitely felt it, and the windows beside his bed were rattling pretty good.
(FYI -I've talked to *Stars* today and they felt it too, but there's no damage there either. She's only 60 miles from it.)
We know it shook our house pretty good, because of the pics being down, but it's still not really processed yet, cuz I keep thinking "did I really feel that, did it really happen?" LOL Odd.
Glad that you guys didn't have any damage either. I understand about thinking it was the wind, cuz like I said, I at first thought it was thunder shaking the house, and rumbling. You know how frequently we get storms that just pop up out of no where. *rolls eyes* And I also wondered about the hubby having bumped the bed, because I'm very sore from my games last night and every time the man moved, it woke me up, so I just assumed that was him again till the phone rang.
Anyway... what a weird start to a Friday. LOL

*blinks* Wow, I lived on the West Coast way too long. I didn't even feel it. Mom said she heard about it, and I remember her saying something this morning at 6:30 when I went to move my car into her spot so I don't get towed on Trash day, but I honestly didn't feel a thing. Then again, I slept through all the earthquakes that hit Nevada/California. The only Earthquake I ever remember feeling was the 8.7 that hit Olympia, Washington in 2001, and that was because I was awake for it......hope all is well in your neck of the woods

Well you guys might not have felt it, I just know that this morning the news was saying they got a call from a viewer in Michigan (don't ask me how/why someone in Mich was watching the Indianapolis news channel, cuz I don't know) who said they felt it. I don't know how far into Mich. they lived. I know that they said they felt it in Atlanta, and Iowa... but it all varies as to where people live as to what they felt. Some people are saying it lasted about 8 seconds, some are saying the shaking lasted for 45 seconds... so maybe you guys didn't get as much of the shakin there *shrugs* who knows.

It's possible. And if they're close to Jackson or the border (which are right down in the left hand corner of the state) they'd probably be able to get news stations from down that way. I live on the Southeast side of the state, near Ohio and Canada...so.....

Okay, so we didn't have an earthquake yesterday but it was one hell of a weather day...
I woke up to a gorgeous sunny (but really, cold and windy day), by mid afternoon the clouds rolled in and then it poured and hailed... Followed by get this lightning and thunder that shook my house... I've never experienced anything like this in my life, albeit, I've lived a relatively short one thus far... Oh and this day gets better, after the freak one shot, earth-shaking thunder, it snows. Large white flakes, like it's Christmas, only *runs to check the date* yes, it's still April... April 19th which makes yesterday the 18th, which means it should be spring, not blizzard season...
Okay, I'm done my wacky weather rant...
In case you got to the end of this post, today, it's sunny, cold, but sunny and most of the snow has melted ;D
